a song for the shuttle
The space shuttle is taking off right now. Summers back, I wrote a poem on the occasion of the launch; never shared it proper. And since I started the tumblr blog to share things quickly, here it is.
Life burns before me with the sun’s own heat.
It fills me with joy, yet I keep such poor reminders:
sly ink and devious pixels beg
the eyes forget what the soul knows.
Hours later, in a gloom,
my soul takes bitter solace in the truth:
I call to mind the the heavens and the earth and whisper:
“It could never be beautiful as that.”
